One place to look to get a glimpse of the future of the TV experience is to see how PC TV services are developing. Unfortunately it is only available in the States, so we cannot get a true feeling for the user experience, but Hula is doing some innovative UI design. They offer a service similar to iPlayer etc, with only a few episodes of each program available.
At the moment the UI is only addressing the TV guide and navigation between programs, but the UI is more interesting than traditional TV guides. They offer personalization but not yet social network services.
